Goals


  • increase the pool of qualified candidates for precision metalworking and related careers
  • increase awareness of and improve the image of metalworking careers
  • sustain and expand metalworking technology education
  • encourage men and women to pursue careers in metalworkingMetalworking in the Chicago metropolitan area depends on a highly skilled workforce.

Funding Priorities


The Foundation is particularly interested in supporting programs that address the following:

  • metalworking and related education programs
  • image building and career awareness in the area of precision metalworking
  • machinery/equipment purchases

The TMA Education Foundation is a 501(c)3 foundation.

The TMA Education Foundation addresses manufacturing’s demand for motivated, innovative, intelligent people to train for tomorrow’s careers - and the need for improved training facilities and programs.

By presenting a current, positive image of this high-tech industry and by promoting the education of basic academic and technical skills, TMA and the Foundation seek to increase the awareness of manufacturing technology careers.

The Foundation’s primary mission is to maximize the impact funds will have on improving and expanding the Chicago area metalworking workforce.

Proposals for Projects and Programs


Grant proposals must be submitted in writing. Contact TMA for a Programs & Projects Proposal form.. Expected information includes project purpose, anticipated outcomes, amount requested, timeline, contact and budget information, list of organization’s board of trustees, additional support literature or information.

Machinery & Equipment Purchase Program


The Foundation will consider partial subsidies of the purchase of qualifying machine tools and accessories by Chicago area educational institutions. Schools can apply for 10% of the purchase price of such equipment, 20% if the program has an active industry advisory council, and 30% if the program is certified by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills. National Institute for Metalworking Skills


The Foundation will partially subsidize fees for individual students and teachers seeking credentialing under NIMS and will financially support schools seeking certification under these national standards.

Review Procedure


The TMA Education Foundation accepts grant requests throughout the year. All requests are reviewed by Foundation staff prior to presentation to the Trustees for consideration.

Generally, the Foundation meets quarterly. Porposals must be received at least three weeks prior to meeting date.

Requests for ongoing programs must be submitted annually; grant approval does not imply continued support the following year. A progress report and financial summary are required at the completion of a project. Funding for completed programs and purchases will not be considered.
