Basic Punch Press Setup and Operation

This course is designed for metalforming employees desiring to improve punch press setup and operation skills. Students will receive related theory and "hands-on" training in the operation and setup of an OBI press, straight side press and hydraulic press. This course is compliant to the national standards established by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) for Stamping II and Stamping III. The course includes an introduction to the stamping press, die components and quick die change. Basic setup and operation of ancillary equipment includes uncoilers, straighteners, feed components (servo, slide, roll and air), cut to length line and loop controllers. Other areas of instruction include press safety, lockout/tagout, manual feeding, coil handling, basic gaging and die installation/removal. Coursework will include an introduction to programming and operating a Wintriss Smart Pac press controller. This is an excellent course to take after completing the Introduction to Metalforming Processes course.
